Tsurphu Monastery was built in 1187 which is the most important monastery of the Karma Kagyu lineage. It has been the main seat for the Karma Kagyu lineage and residence of all the successive reincarnations of the Gyalwang Karmapas. Tsurphu is located in the northwest part of Tolung valley (now under Tolung Dechen Shen, the County of Lhasa Municipality) about 70 kilometers (about 44 miles) from the capital city of Lhasa. Its elevation is around 14,000 feet or 4,300 meters above the seal level. Behind the complex rises the "Thukje Chenpo" mountain, in front is the Tsurphu River.

Tsurphu has been well supported by Ming and Qing Dynasty Government for long, hence which enshrined many rare and historical relics, such as the relics of historic Buddha Shakyamuni, Naropa, Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa, the Karmapas, and many other great enlightened masters, Stupas, Buddhist Statutes, Shrine Box and Great Shrines, etc. Hence, these relics and reliquary statues should be recovered and well preserved.

Again, we need your kind support to preserve Tusrphu Monastery and Buddhist dharma. We wish the reconstruction work can be completed as soon as possible.
